Panoramic view on a cattle ranch landscape in Florida at sunset, hurriedly executed as the sun went down.
On Sean Sexton's Treasure Hammocks Ranch in Vero Beach. Sean and I were coming in after working on paintings out on the ranch. Sean suggested we stop to do a quick painting of the glorious sundown that was happening. So we stopped, set up and worked fast as we could as the sun went down. The first thing I did on mine was add a thin raw or burnt umber across the bottom, then fast the clean sundown-pink clouds streaked across the sky. Timing was perfect but the event was fast moving. Finished everything, a rough image by necessity, in just minutes as dark overtook us. But, if someone were to ask 'how long did it take you to do this painting?' I would have to respond: First, it took 50 years of practice.... / sg
