Painted from Long Rifle Lodge at about Milepost 103 on the Glenn Highway, a hundred miles northeast of Anchorage, Alaska. Mt. Sgt. Robinson is the snow-covered mountain in the distance, said to be about 10,600 feet high. Chugach Mountains, late summer. In the foreground of the painting, in the valley way down below, we see the braided Matanuska River, and along the river to the right, the first yellow-orange fall colors on a few scattered willow bushes.
