This is the artist's third painting of the Klaune Lake landscape along the Alaska-Canada Highway. On this drive up the highway, the artist drove a Toyota Tercel to Anchorage for his good friend and Kodiak fisherman, KJ Herman in Seattle, who wanted to get the car to Kodiak. The view is from the passenger seat, the artist's reflected image is in the mirror at upper right. The lake is still iced over, with thin ice at the edge of the lake. The blue on the ice below is the shadow of the big mountain on our right, out of our view. A short piece of the highway can be seen thru the spruce trees just to the right of the ice near the center of of the painting.
