“My paintings are infused with my interests in the rich heritage of South Dakota, art history, and global travel. I particularly enjoy painting Black Hills landscapes, and I frequently make the outdoors my studio by painting in plein air. I utilize watercolor on either Ampersand Claybord or Yupo paper, painting with AQUA-Fix by Schmincke. This allows me to apply vibrant color in multiple layers. I find my technique conducive to creating a glassy surface through layering of multiple colors. My artwork reflects a passion for mountain living and the restorative impact of nature.”

Dr. Bonnie Halsey-Dutton is both a professional visual artist and a fine arts educator, holding a doctorate in art history and education from the University of Arizona. She melds being an artist and educator by exhibiting her artwork nationally and internationally, as well as teaching adult art education workshops at home and abroad. Her interest in travel and global culture is reflected in her artwork where she infuses philosophical thought and cultural appreciation into her studio practice.
