“I grew up on a small family farm near Andover, SD, on the western edge of the Coteau des Prairie in Day County. No one has lived on the farm for many years, but it holds a special place in my heart. I am drawn to landscapes that remind me of it, images of fields with rows of crops and hay bales with stark contrasting light and shadow. I include cows and sheep in my landscapes, modeling their forms with brightly colored shadows, keeping my paintings simple and details to a minimum. While I care about the subject, the work is also about thick oil paint and energetic brush strokes.”
