“My paintings invite you to step close; I desire for my work to have such a strong presence that it influences the viewer, perhaps reminds them of a place they have been. My work has a skin, a surface that is full of color and texture. The surface — including active gestures, sketches, and scratches — alive and lush, is a celebration of paint. My paintings are a visual celebration of the landscape of South Dakota.”

Jenny Braig grew up in Dubuque, IA, a Midwestern town on the banks of the Mississippi River. She majored in art, with minors in art history and English from Loras College in Dubuque in 1992. That same year she moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota. She lives in Spearfish with her husband and two daughters. For a landscape painter, moving to the West was ideal. Now Jenny spends her time painting landscapes, teaching art at the Spearfish Art Center, and teaching piano from her home.
