“This individual print is from a series of silk-screen print works entitled ‘Badlands’. These images focus on my explorations of the remote Sage Creek Wilderness in Badlands National Park to investigate the psychological thresholds and the edge of conscious thought in relation
to space and movement through the landscape. The final mechanically reproduced print work suggests the potential transformation and subjectively influencing the framing of reality and place, embracing the theory that they require our participation in order to be landscapes.”

Michael Baum is a studio artist, guide, and educator, leading wilderness expeditions and teaching courses on art and the environment. A recipient of several awards and grants for teaching, research, and national solo and group exhibitions, Michael earned his
Master of Fine Arts in drawing and printmaking at Washington State University and a Bachelor of Science in art education at Black Hills State University where he currently works as an associate professor of studio art.
