My work is steeped in the writings of literature generally, but this painting specifically in the writings of William Faulkner. This painting was painted on land that Faulkner once walked and I wanted his presence known in part through the half hidden figure in the trees. This sense of nearness but also of chaotic memory is shown in the house half standing. The title is taken from Faulkner's novel The Sound and the Fury.
