Born in South Korea, but quickly moved to California to live her elementary school years, she discovered a passion for art early on. When she came back to Korea, she spent the next six years at Sunhwa Art School in Seoul – one of the most prominent fine arts middle and high schools in the country.
As extensive as her training was, nothing prepared her for the competitive environment she encountered at Samsung Art and Design Institute (SADI). The stringent curriculum was designed to help students cultivate the skills to become elite global designers. Through SADI’s international affiliations, she transferred to Parsons School of Design in New York City and graduated two years later.
Soo grew her position in the fashion industry to becoming an art director for Revlon. She spent her days building brand stories for fragrance brands and executed campaign concepts from start to finish – overseeing photo shoots and production as well as advertising, in-store displays, and social media videos.
Most often she would collaborate with artists and illustrators that inspired her and led her back to where she’s always wanted to be. She has now transformed herself going back to her roots to become a full time artist/teacher.
Statement
Soo is a mixed media artist working with alcohol inks and using a heat gun to create “flow” across the page, creating compositions as they dry. She blends different colors, or add touches of gold, strokes, and fine lines, to create a story. Her creative process is about being in the moment and letting go. It requires total concentration to be fully into the moment and forces her to let everything else go. She is inspired by trying to recapture that sense of play and carries the vision of feeling free in nature being open, honest, and free.
