Artist's Statement
My artwork is an expression of the joy that I feel and the peace that I find in the simple beauty of life. Whether hammocks or lemons, hillsides or courtyards, I am drawn to scenes that are touched by sunlight -- enticing me to linger and appreciate God’s world. Through my oil paintings, I seek to capture the fleeting magic that occurs when ordinary scenes are transformed by the sun.

About the Artist
North Carolina artist Sonia Kane is a painter of sunlit moments. She loves looking for those times when the fleeting sun graces the shadows of an everyday scene with its transforming beauty. These “oh wow” moments are the inspiration for her oil paintings as they remind her to linger and savor God’s world.
Sonia graduated from Virginia Tech in 1982 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and a job in the Space Shuttle program. Admittedly, “rocket science” is not the normal path for an artist, but her artistic love was never far away. She left IBM in 1994 and has been taking art classes and workshops ever since.
Today, Sonia’s award-winning paintings hang in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the United States. She is represented by The Little Art Gallery in Raleigh NC and Waverly Artists Group Studio & Gallery in Cary NC as well as frequent solo and group shows in the region.
Sonia and her husband, Matthew, have raised their three children in Raleigh and have made it their home since 1988.
