Artist statement: "This work is from my latest series where I am exploring land use issues on the edge of San Francisco Bay. The bay is an estuary where fresh river water mixes with salty sea water and home to over 750 species of fish, animals and birds. Wetlands surrounding the bay filter toxic pollution and offer natural flood protection; they are essential to the health of the region's marine and wildlife populations as well as humans, yet we have developed these lands in ways that threaten our collective health. "On the Edge" is an aerial view portrait of some undeveloped wetlands on the bay, sandwiched in between the discharge location for a sewage treatment plant and an industrial park. We are lucky that these wetlands have been preserved and I hope this "portrait" of them will help ensure their survival as untouched wetlands for eternity."

Technique: hand painted, machine quilted, silk crepe de chine hand painted using remezol dyes and water soluble resist.
Culture: American
