Lone Star Quilt

One large eight point star, four corner stars and floating Le Moyne stars. Quilting by the piece in the stars, crosshatch throughout. Back is white cotton with black figure back with separate blue chambray binding.

Although the state of Texas claims the Lone Star as its own, the design has universal appeal for obvious reasons, and has been adopted and adapted by quilt makers all over the nation. This quilt, with its small, floating LeMoyne stars around the edges, is an excellent example of a classic turn-of-the-century Pennsylvania German quilt. The maker’s color choices here also make it clear why this pattern is sometimes called Blazing Star.
