Artist: Leopoldo Torres Aguero (1924-1995)
Leopoldo Torres Aguero is a painter born in Buenos Aires in 1924 and died in Paris in 1995. The modern spirit came to Argentina through two different routes with a painting of somewhat late but solid cubism, and the Cercle et Carré group. These two important currents are at the origin of abstract painting in Argentina. In 1948 the Movimiento de Arte Madi struck the eye, confused the mind and placed itself at the international avant-garde. Torres Agüero is part of this revolutionary movement by exhibiting in 1939. He participates in many artistic adventures while continuing this long "Latin" tradition of mural painting. After multiple trips and long stays in Paris (1950) and Japan (1952), starting from figuration, the painter developed his art in the mid-1960s towards geometric painting. But "learning only serves to sharpen the intuition of what remains to be known" (Torres Agüero). Works in the museums of Argentina and Bolivia, Cuba, United States such as that of Dallas, Georges Pompidou Museum, Dunkirk, Saint Omer, Roquebrune, Soissons. Personal exhibitions in exhibitions and museums around the world, and present in major contemporary art fairs such as the Fiac in Paris or the Brafa in Brussels.
