Shoccara Marcus captures the artistry and diversity of dance celebrating their movement, culture, and impact through powerful imagery.
MessageIt was at Howard University where Shoccara Marcus picked up a camera in collaboration with her dancing. She earned a BFA in Dance with a minor in Visual Arts-Photography and later obtained an MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design (Atlanta, GA). Her photography, represented by the esteemed Arnika Dawkins Gallery, has been showcased nationally and internationally and is included in notable collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA GA) in Atlanta and the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University.
She has been awarded residencies at the Hambidge Center and the Cousins Promenade Building in Atlanta. In 2022, as part of Dance Stories ATL, a production company she co-founded, Marcus produced Five Stories, a documentary highlighting Atlanta's pioneering Black dance studios.
Through her Bronze in First posters, Marcus celebrates the artistry and diversity of Black and Brown dancers. She remains deeply committed to spotlighting the narratives of Black dance artists in and around Atlanta
