I ventured out to try my hand at plein air painting during the unseasonably warm weather in February at the Los Batiquitos Lagoon, one of the few wetland preserves left in California that is home for many species of birds and fish.
I had a wonderful day painting on the trail next to the lagoon just after the morning fog had burned off. I was trying to capture the natural light and colors around me as well as the peaceful feeling of the venue. I was able to get the composition laid out and color notes in before the light changed drastically. The work was then completed in the studio.
