About Shelley Crouch

I turned to art as therapy at the age of fifty-seven after the loss of my mother in April 2020. The early days of the COVID pandemic and quarantine were a crazy time to grieve such a great loss, but learning to paint and create art in other forms not only got me through it, but helped me grow into the creative person I never knew I was.

Statement

The purpose of most of my art is to use to illustrate books for children. I’ve written and illustrated two nonfiction children’s books, one about insects, and one about birds. I'm currently working on two others, one about mammals and one about reptiles and amphibians. I'm also creating picture storybook for young children about a little girl and the moon, as well as a middle-grade chapter book about a boy and his dog that will have a few ink drawings in it.

I create some art simply for the joy of it or to experiment with new expressions of art.
