My art practice challenges social and linguistic constructs in the United States through precisely crafted artworks organized into collections.
MessageTitle: place /plās/noun
a particular position or point in space.
a portion of space available or designated for or used by someone.
One of thirteen works in the series, this piece transforms shadows from sculptural figures into stark black silhouettes, enlarging isolated body parts to suggest fragmented presence. Using charcoal, oil stick, and make-up—lipstick and eyeliner—the work traces how bodies occupy, claim, or are denied space, turning material gestures into a meditation on presence, absence, and belonging. Black is used throughout the series because of its dichotomy—it is both sophisticated and primitive, emotional and intellectual; an absence of color that evokes a visceral, often contradictory response.
