My interdisciplinary practice investigates the social and linguistic constructs that shape identity, history, and collective memory in the United States.
MessageDemocracy Dies critiques the entanglement of corporate power, media, and authoritarian politics. A manipulated Washington Post masthead dated January 20, 2025, Trump’s second inauguration, shows its slogan “Democracy Dies in Darkness” violently redacted, signaling silenced dissent.
A Sharpie above the frame evokes executive overreach and unilateral authority. The work references reported ties between Amazon’s $1M donation to Trump, a $40M deal involving Melania Trump, and internal directives that led to censorship debates and editorial resignation.
Decorative floral motifs and wallpaper suggest domestic normalcy, in contrast to systems of control and complicity. A bound wire figure evokes constraint, surveillance, and the erosion of democratic ideals.
