My interdisciplinary practice investigates the social and linguistic constructs that shape identity, history, and collective memory in the United States.
MessageFramed like a precious object, Atonement invites viewers to look down—both physically and metaphorically. A copper-tiled surface, patinated and stitched, recalls architectural flooring or burial sites. In its center, a lit window offers a glimpse inward, yet the contents remain indistinct. Gilded edges and hidden lighting evoke reverence. Created in response to learning of ancestral ties to enslavement, the piece reflects on inherited guilt, historical complicity, and the quiet weight of reckoning.
