In 1988 Shauna founded Artists Open Studio, which currently, after 37 years, promotes the work of more than 65 artists in the Northeast Corner of Connecticut.
A popular demonstrator and teacher, Shauna takes pride in her ability to convey to others how to see and understand the visual world in a way that makes their artistic journey enjoyable and productive. Positive and energetic, her versatility is showcased in her effective and inspirational instruction in drawing, oil, pastel, acrylic, and watercolor. Students can join her classes at the West Hartford Art League, Workshops throughout the state of Connecticut and in her own studio in Storrs, CT.
In addition to workshops and master classes from Robert Bateman, Charles Reid, Clyde Aspevig and Raymond Everett Kinstler, her educational background includes Lyme Academy of Fine Art, UCONN, and Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. However, no instruction was as important as that from art instructor and mentor, Raymond Campeau in Bozeman, Montana. Offering an academic art curriculum and the information that art is a viable career, Mr. Campeau was the facilitator of a love of artistic excellence making the decision to become a professional fine artist possible. What a special gift this teacher made that was the catalyst for a life of making and sharing my impression of what is beautiful in this world.
Statement
“Because of how I see the beauty of nature, my paintings are exuberant with color and energy. I paint each day feeling the tradition of America's plein air masters close behind me, immersed in the light and atmosphere of the day. There is simply no way to describe the intense experience and connection that occurs when painting from life.”
