Shaun Frankfurt is a Tulsa-based painter whose work is rooted in close observation, disciplined studio practice, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. His artistic life moves between producing work for galleries and private commissions, painting outdoors through national plein air competitions, and teaching others who share an interest in representational painting.
and an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA. He has continued his artistic education through study with several respected artists, including Gene Stewart, Bill Bristow, Phil Evett, and John Lasater. He has also studied with the Watts Atelier and attended JSS in Civita in 2023, working with instructors Israel Hershberg, Yael Scalia, and Diana Horowitz.
Influenced by representational and pre-impressionist traditions, Shaun approaches painting as both a craft and a way of seeing. Whether working in the studio or painting directly from life outdoors, he is drawn to light, atmosphere, place, and the quiet visual moments that make a scene feel alive. Plein air painting has become an important part of his practice, not only as a way to study nature firsthand, but also as a way to connect with other artists across the country.
