My father's family homesteaded in the Willowbrook area of Saskatchewan. Several years ago, my daughter and I spent an afternoon on the property walking around the abandoned house, outbuildings and the surrounding fields. I took the reference photo for this painting standing in the yard with my back to the old farmhouse. It was a beautiful, sunny July day, a typical Saskatchewan summer afternoon.⁠
