“My sculpture is the result of experimentations with physical forces. It involves the use of gravity, tension, pressure, and compression and structural means. Using common construction materials, I assemble works which deal directly and honestly with the forces that give rise to their form.”
“The work included in the South Carolina State Art Collection is a combination of efforts to build with tension and compression. The compression structures became progressively less complicated until this work presented itself. A concrete block is held against the wall by a metal rod pressed between it and another concrete block on the floor. That’s it. Elementary physics, but there is a power and integrity to this simplicity that were absent in previous work. This structure, concise and direct, exemplifies my sculptural concerns. I consider it one of the most successful to date.”
