I approach painting with an open mind and spirit, hoping to get involved with a mood or feeling that will bring forth an experience that can be expressed in an exciting way. To me this is mood painting, purely expressionist, and in this painting I have tried to express the restlessness of both nature and society and the unsteady state of turbulence that can be created by both. A Mist of Heavy Water came about with the idea of working as a reductionist, placing limits on both imagery and color to create a liquid space while working towards simplicity of form and color. The physical flow of the paint and its viscosity helps to determine the tactile feeling of the color as well as the final structure of the work. Simply said, the color and the feeling of the painting creates a mood, a particular type of space, as well as a place, while evoking a response in the viewer.

The mission of the South Carolina Arts Commission is to promote access to the arts and support the cultivation of creativity in South Carolina. We envision a South Carolina where the arts are valued and all people benefit from a variety of creative experiences.

A state agency created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1967, the SCAC works to increase public participation in the arts through grants, direct programs, staff assistance and partnerships in artist development, arts industry, arts learning, creative placemaking, and folklife and traditional arts. Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., the SCAC is funded by the state of South Carolina, by the federal government through the National Endowment for the Arts, and other sources.
