I am a self taught artist with a little help along the way from artists such as Ann Blockley, Jean Haines and Ali Lindley whose workshops were informative and inspiring.
Statement
Painting is an escape and an adventure into a world of colours, shapes and textures.
I work predominantly in watercolour as it is a medium of many personalities, moods and complexities, and is an adventure in itself. It is playful yet challenging and allows me to embrace a carefree and spontaneous approach to my art. In many ways it self creates a painting and certainly has a say in the destination of piece of work.
Colours and pigments can be…..vibrant, bold, strong, forthcoming, domineering, bossy…..OR shy, reticent, understated, calming, reassuring, safe, ethereal …..BUT always intriguing.
When water and pigment meet, an exciting journey begins which can be quick or slow, explosive or sedate whilst the colours mingle to create atmosphere and mood and ultimately EVOKE FEELINGS.
