I received a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Illustration/Graphic Design from the Maryland
Institute, College of Art in 1985. After working as a graphic artist for 15 years, I
acknowledged and began to pursue my real passion – oil painting. In 2000, I started
a 10-year journey into painting still life at the Ridgewood Art Institute in New Jersey,
and my 4-year journey into portraiture at the Art Students League in New York City. It
was at these two institutions that my passion, skills and talent in traditional oil
painting was nurtured.
I am continually drawing inspiration from several Impressionist and Post-
Impressionist painters. It is hard to say who could be my favorite, as there are many!
Most importantly, I continue to study and expand my skills, learning new techniques
at workshops with painters I admire, and obtaining new inspirations from the Rocky
Mountains and the surrounding area.
This current body of work has been inspired by local scenes of our mountains and
aspen trees. Our local artists continue to draw and paint from our beautiful
surroundings, trying to capture the alluring colors of our aspen trees all year long.
On the many days as I take my four dogs for a walk, I discover all kinds of
beautiful scenery. Between the walks, workshops and research of other artists, I
have tried to incorporate styles that are appealing to me and which seem to naturally
develop and encourage me further in many surprising ways.
