Anders Johnson grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He found his way to Colorado through a teaching position at Western Colorado University where he is an Assistant Professor of Art, teaching Foundations. Johnson received his BA from North Park University in Chicago, IL and holds an MFA in Painting and Drawing from Indiana University. Previous to Western, Johnson taught at both Vincennes University and Indiana University, both on campus and through the study abroad program in Florence, Italy.
Johnson has an active national and international exhibition record of solo and group shows and his artwork is in several collections including the Evansville Art Museum and The CICA Museum in Seoul, South Korea. He was also featured in New American Paintings and was a guest on the Studio Break Podcast.
Johnson works in mostly water-based media such as acrylic, gouache, and Flashe paint. As a painter, Johnson creates environments that are both filled with ruin and disarray, but also contain a careful assemblage of cultural, historical, political, and personal references.
