The eponymous red room of this painting is the artist's living room, a place where the red walls envelop the space in a world of comfort and evoke the feeling of home. The sunlight streaming in from the window over the sofa and onto the floor, reflecting a gold light on the mantle and in the paintings on the wall give this piece a nineteenth-century feel, of this nineteenth-century house, the same century as the artist's sensibility. In this as in all the paintings, red dominates as the color of this warm feeling of home, of comfort, of love.
