I've named the child after Saint Bernadette, the patron saint of the poor. The thread she holds is gold, contrasting with the faded pink of her dress. A dove brings her a twig with gold berries. Beneath the surface there are discussions to be had about the fetishization of poverty, the role of the church, and child labor.
