Pillar With Ganesh,  Elephanta Caves, Mumbai (2016) by Sanjay Marathe Image: The sculpted column is located deep inside a rock cut cave at Elephanta island near Mumbai. It dates back to the 5th -7th century CE. The pillar has exquisite, uniform vertical lines beautifully carved in the hard basalt stone. At the bottom is a Ganesha statue in a cross-legged sitting posture. With very low available light and no tripods permitted, I had to photograph it handheld, with a digital SLR camera.
