Creating a plein-air painting of Mt. Tabor in Portland was an extraordinary experience that left me feeling truly inspired. As an artist, there is nothing quite like being immersed in nature and letting it guide your brushstrokes. The stunning rose garden provided a breathtaking backdrop for my canvas, and I felt my creativity come alive as I captured the natural beauty of the forested mountain peak.
With 176.04 acres to explore, the possibilities for artistic discovery were endless. I reveled in the opportunity to hike through the picturesque landscape and let its raw beauty infuse my painting. It was truly a special day, filled with joy and wonder.
Learning about the history of Mt. Tabor only added to the enchantment of the experience. Named after the majestic Mt. Tabor in Israel, the volcanic cinder cone has a rich past that is deeply intertwined with the city of Portland. In 1894, the city built two open reservoirs on the site, further enhancing the natural wonder of this remarkable place.
As I packed up my paints and said goodbye to Mt. Tabor, I felt grateful for the opportunity to create a piece of art that captured the essence of this extraordinary place. Nature truly is the greatest teacher, and I was fortunate to have been a student on this magical day.
