Do you remember those bigger-than-life moments when you imagine something bigger than yourself? I had one of those moments when I was very young and visited Ester Short Park and saw the Pioneer Mother Memorial. A sculpture representing pioneer mothers who settled in the Pacific Northwest.
This painting is a profound reflection of a pivotal moment in my life, one of those instances when you feel the world's vastness and your own potential. It all began with a visit to Ester Short Park and a chance encounter with the Pioneer Mother Memorial, a sculpture that honors the pioneer women who braved the challenges of settling in the Pacific Northwest. Seeing this monument, I found myself transported into the shoes of those pioneer women, embarking on a transformative journey of self-discovery. From that moment on, I saw myself as a great pioneer woman on her own unique path, crafting a life that resonated with my deepest aspirations.
On one beautiful summer day, I decided to encapsulate this journey through my art. I set up my Plein-air easel in Ester Short Park, surrounded by the echoes of history and the laughter of people enjoying the park's beauty. The painting captures the essence of the park on this radiant day, where the sun cast its warm glow on the trees and the vivid hues of nature harmonized with the joyful atmosphere. This artwork is not just a portrayal of the park's landscape but a visual narrative of my personal odyssey, a reminder that life is a canvas on which we paint our own stories, I was determined to paint mine with inspiration from those pioneering women who came before me.
