Samuel is a visual artist who lives and works in Madrid and Lisbon. His artistic work is a testament to his relentless pursuit of the beauty of the world around us, fusing his singular perspective with an ongoing exploration of the creative process.
Samuel's trajectory encompasses both his artistic passion and his academic and professional training. He was born in Almada, Portugal, in 1966, and from a young age, at 8 years old, he already demonstrated his artistic talent by diving into painting. Surprisingly, at the age of 12, he had already won his first painting prize.
Despite having academic training as a Telecom engineer, Samuel has always nurtured his affinity with art. He maintained a balance between his involvement in the business world and continued dedication to his passion for painting. This dedication translates into his study journey over time:
Artistic Training:
Classical Painting: National Society of Fine Arts of Lisbon, Portugal Teacher: Jaime Silva - Taller del Prado, Madrid, Spain Teachers: Jorge Pedraza and Paco Molina -
Specialization in Abstract Painting: Next-Art, Lisbon, Portugal Teacher: Rui Tavares - Studio Berlin, Madrid, Spain Teacher: María Luisa Domínguez
Throughout his artistic career, Samuel followed a path that began in classical painting, where he developed technical skills and an understanding of composition. Over the years his technique evolved into looser, more expressive brushstrokes, allowing him to explore abstraction and composition in greater depth. Abstraction became a more complex and challenging form of expression, focusing on the formal, expressive and compositional qualities of his creations.
Samuel's approach to art is strongly influenced by the study of modern and contemporary artistic currents. He achieved a "realist" approach to abstraction, where the minute details of his works reflect the often overlooked beauty of what is close to us.
From his perspective, art should be appreciated in a personal and intimate way, allowing each observer to discover their own interpretation and meaning.
“The best way to observe art is always our own”
Since 2022, he has worked as a collaborator at MAC – Movimento Arte Contemporânea
