Mother's Day features a mare and a foal trotting through a field of bluegrass and clover, in perfect step. This painting was inspired by my own mother who showed me the way to persevere through hardships and disappointments. My mother introduced me to the arts when I was very young, taking me to the ballet, symphony, musicals, and museums from the time I was five years old. Just as her mother insured each of her ten children had music and art lessons, my mother worked very hard to make sure I had every opportunity she could give me so that I would know how to best use the gifts with which I have been so blessed. In spite of the many challenges facing a single mother raising three children, my mother showed me what it means to remain resilient, celebrating in all of life’s experiences with gratitude and an indomitable spirit. I worked on this piece for two years, finally completing it on March 26, 2023. At the time of this writing, I am planning a trip to North Carolina where I will unveil this piece to my 94-year-old mother in the best way I know how to show her how much she has inspired me, and what she has meant to me. Mother, you are the most resilient woman I know. I don’t have enough words to say thank you.
