Raku Chōnyū (長入), also known as Raku Kichizaemon VII (1714–1770), was the seventh-generation head of the family. He was born the eldest son of the 6th-generation master Sōnyū (長次郎宗入) and took over the workshop in 1748. Working in mid-Edo Kyoto, Chōnyū continued the Raku legacy during a period of tea-culture flourishing. He is especially remembered for refining the classic Raku style: hand-built bowls with thick, lustrous glazes and emphasis on natural beauty.
