“Tata-wan” — evoking abundance, celebration, and longevity, potentially coined by Hōunsai in connection with the auspicious age of 77 (喜壽).
Made for the 77th birthday celebratory exhibition held at the Nihonbashi branch of the Mitsukoshi Department Store in 2019 honouring Miyagawa Kōsai VI, the sixth-generation master of the Makuzu (Makatsu) Kōsai ceramic lineage.
This exhibition commemorated his contributions to traditional Japanese ceramics, particularly in the realm of tea ceremony wares. Miyagawa Kōsai VI has been recognized for his dedication to the craft, holding numerous solo exhibitions across Japan and internationally, and his works have been selected for prestigious venues, including the Kyoto State Guest House.
