Statement
When first faced with a blank white canvas, after decades of working in graphic design, I soon realized how my childhood growing up on a farm would shape the path and inspiration of my work. With paint and brush I became a small child again and tried to draw upon the joy and wonder of discovering the natural world outside my door. I remembered the peace I felt lying in the grass and looking up at churning shape-shifting clouds as the sun’s warmth enveloped my body. With a child's innocence I remembered the feeling of hearing the earth whispering to me in its own language. The fool's errand as an adult artist is thinking that I could ever duplicate the living, breathing beauty that continues to astound me, but if I can capture a moment, a memory or impart some element of peace that nature imbues, then I have succeeded.
