Ember in Bloom is a close-up study of a flower caught in a moment of quiet intensity. I worked with mixed media on a 6-by-6-inch surface, focusing on the flower’s elongated petals glowing in warm oranges, reds, and browns. The petals seem to reach outward, energized by the detailed brushwork that brings depth to each stroke. At the heart sits a textured, dark red core that anchors the composition, adding contrast and a tactile quality that invites you in for a closer look.
The background plays a subtle but important role—a blend of dark green and earthy beige tones that offers a calm stage for the flower’s vibrant colors to take center stage. I wanted the overall feel to be organic and natural, but with a bit of expressive realism that hints at the flower’s life force without strict literalism. The painting grew out of my curiosity about how something as familiar as a flower can still surprise with its dynamic shapes and colors when you slow down and look closely.
The process was about balancing control and spontaneity. Layering and texture helped me explore the flower’s form while letting brushstrokes speak freely, creating movement without losing clarity. This piece reflects my ongoing interest in capturing the energy and quiet power of natural forms, filtered through a painter’s eye that appreciates both detail and expression.
