This piece was painted at the Yale Norfolk Summer School of Music and Art in Norfolk, Connecticut in 1962, thanks to a scholarship grant for which I qualified as a second-year student at San Francisco Art Institute. I was among 30 art students from various art schools from around the country. It is the first acrylic painting I ever made. Leonard Beaucour was a visiting lecturer who gave the class samples of his recently-released acrylic paint line. Sam Golden, founder of Golden Acrylic Paints, was Beaucour's chemist at the time, so he was the inventor of this new paint – which eventually evolved into today's popular Golden Color company.
