La Cabeza del Minotauro is an impressive image of a minotauro in bronze, created by Dutch artist and sculptor Anthon Hoornweg. Since 1999 all prize-winners of the PRIX EUROPA not only receive prize money and a certificate, but also a special trophy – the TAURUS! Each of the TAURUS sculptures created by Hoornweg is therefore unique. For this reason, and because each statue was born of passion, it can only belong to one person. Hoornweg says that as soon as this person touches his or her TAURUS, it will come to life and will never leave that person.
Nowadays Anthon creates each Taurus in different sizes, the largest measures 70 x 50 cm!
His sculptures represent human beings, animals, like bronze bulls, or a combination of the two, as in his Minotaurs taken from Greek mythology, part man and part bull. Sometimes his minotaurs are like mummies, swathed in bandages.
