Original artwork by André Romijn. Study of Bathsheba after Willem Drost. Oil on canvas. laid on wood.
As a student of Rembrandt, Willem's painting titled 'Bathsheba' was inspired by Rembrandt's painting done in the same year (1654) on the same subject and given the same title, though their treatments are rather different. Both Drost's and Rembrandt's paintings are in the Louvre in Paris.
He died much too young in Venice, just two months before his 26th birthday. A great painter lost!
