André Romijn: Capturing the essence of femininity in oil paintings
Message-
Artist: Maurice De Korte (1889-1971)
Maurice De Korte (Schaerbeek 1889 - 1971 Watermael-Boitsfort), sculptor - painter - medalist. Maurice De Korte made his apprenticeship at the Academy of Brussels, under the direction of Paul Dubois, Victor Rousseau and the painter Emile Fabry. Married to Joséphine Huyghe. 2nd Godecharle Prize with Funeral (1914). At that time his works were academic.
He seeks a sober style to represent the eternal beauty of the young woman on the threshold of life. In order not to fall into fashionable modernism, he returned to nature, studied children and growing youth, created statues of poetic beauty. Its materials are terracotta, ceramics, plaster, bronze and stone.
Editions Nerva in Brussels produces ceramic sculptures after the projects of M. De Korte. Professor at the Academy of Tournai (1923 - 58). Organizes exhibitions where he shows his works and those of his students.
