Artist Bio: Penny Smith
I am a contemporary impressionist artist painting mainly in oil and watercolor.
Landscape and floral paintings are favorite subjects of mine.
As a young adult, I studied art with my aunt, Mary Lang, a professional artist and teacher from Baltimore, Maryland. She instilled in me a love of art and introduced me to the fundamentals of painting. During my college years I continued to study art while pursuing a career in nursing. After receiving a master of science degree from the University of Maryland I worked as a nurse practitioner in endocrinology at Georgetown University Hospital.
Upon retiring, I was able to pursue two lifelong passions: art and music.
I am a continual student of art – enjoying many art classes and workshops over the years both locally and abroad.
I also joined The Georgetown Chorale, singing soprano, and serve on the board of directors.
I am a founding member of my art group, “The Seven Palettes” - a group of professional women artists supporting each other in our work, exhibiting our paintings, and organizing art workshops.
Professional art organization memberships include: Friends of the Yellow Barn, Montgomery Art Association, Rockville Art Association and the Chevy Chase Art group.
Solo and group art exhibits of my artwork include: Gallery B in Bethesda, Kentlands Mansion, Brookside Gardens, The Yellow Barn at Glen Echo, Maplewood, Iona Gallery, and Georgetown University Hospital.
My paintings are in many private collections and are on display at several business organizations.
