My art expresses my deep inner imagination. The fun in creating art is watching the morphing canvas, and always challenging myself to find the better design and a more expressive meaningful color. But meaningful, I cherish bring enjoyment to the viewer and to myself.
Art is that sparkle of enjoyment I have as I look into the possibilities of trying to translate an inspiration. To admire the masters of art history is daunting because I want to try to imagine their thinking. I’ve always had a special admiration and inspiration of the artists’ of the Renaissance period. To learn from them is challenging, fearful and fun. Their work offers me a platform to capture the possibilities and the complexity of art.
I am always excited and challenged when imaging my next painting. I try not to limit myself by the style or the materials I used in my last painting. I enjoy pushing myself with different perspectives, designs, mediums, colors and textures.
The truth is that I have been blessed with my grandfather’s art genes. He decorated many walls and ceilings with frescos in banks, hotels and government buildings in Canada and the United States. He and his art inspired me.
My first full time job was as a technical illustrator in 1958. Latter I became a commercial artist, advertising designer, art director, creative director and finally president of my own advertising agency. I have over forty-five years experience in the art profession.
I am a national award winning designer, art competition judge, author and lecturer for graphics and advertising art. I was a member of the Board of Editorial Advisers of Industrial Art Magazine and Graphics Today. Both were leading professional art journals for fifteen years. I have written and lectured authoritatively on a number of subjects related to advertising, marketing and public relations.
I am honored to have had my own advertising agency, Renaissance Communications Inc., for 33 years. I owned the US registered trademark using the, for the word “Renaissance” for all advertising agency services in the United States. I am a former co-president of the Senior Artist Alliance (SAA), in Montgomery County, Maryland.
I learned much from my professional art working experience. My grandfather, an Italian artist and perfectionist, inspire me. When I asked him to teach me how to paint, he gave be a black metal box of paints and brushes. Then he said “no, just paint, Joe paint”.
Now I am painting and enjoying the challenge.
