Robert Reed
b. 1938 - 2014
Mr. Reed studied at Morgan State College B.S. ('58), Yale University B.F.A. ('60) and M.F.A. ('62) and held a D.F.A.,Honorary - Minneapollis College of Art and Design 2001. His work is in the permanent collections of Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC; Hirshhorn Museum, D.C.; Yale Art Gallery, CT; National Academy Museum, NY; Detroit Institute of Art, MI; Bayly Museum, VA; Martin Museum, TX; Walker Art Center, MN; Minneapolis Art Insitute, MN; Afro-American Museum of Art and Culture, TX; and National Museum of Southern Art, LA.
His solo exhibitions have included: the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Yale School of Art, CT; The Bayly Art Museum, VA; The Washburn Gallery, NY; and the Martin Museum, TX. His work has been included in numerous group shows including: The Whitney Museum of America Art May, 2015, America Is Hard To See, NYC; David Findley Jr. Fine Art Gallery, NYC; New Arts Gallery, CT; Second Street Gallery, VA; Bayly Art Museum, VA; Maier Museum, VA; Aldrich Museum, CT; and Wadsworth Anthenaeum, CT.
He was a Yaddo Fellow, a McDowell Colony board member, and elected to the National Academy Fellowship, NYC.
Mr. Reed was a Professor of painting and printmaking on the faculty of the Yale School of Art, Yale University from 1969 until his death in 2014.
