- Foam & resin with steel armature / auto paint finish
"Trojan Dog" is a permanently installed piece created by local artist Ann Glover. Glover created this piece using foam and resin over a steel armature and finished it with automotive paint. She was inspired by polychromed wood figures of guard dogs, made in the Japanese Edo period in the creation of the Trojan Dog. But, she also included the #7 medallion in a nod to this fire station location. It can be found outside of Roanoke's Fire Station No. 7.
While the "Trojan Dog" was initially a part of the A.I.R. Program of 2010-2012, it ended up being loved by the public and was purchased by the Raleigh Court Civic League. The "Trojan Dog" was originally a wooden sculpture, but it had started to wear down. So the civic league gathered funds from the city’s grant and the Percent for Art to pay for a duplicate of the “Trojan Dog” that was made out of fiberglass that would be able to withstand the weather.
