The inescapable duality of “the troubling and the tender” are reflected in a diptych format. Seeking to reconcile her dismay at the pollution she observed at Tinker Creek with the graceful deer repeatedly returning to drink from the water, the artist uses the intentional application of layered mixed media as “a way to stay in that state of attention — “translating what I observed through the slow process of making marks…Many of my encounters became a discipline of seeing without controlling, of allowing the place to reveal its own patterns and contradictions.”
“Watching the deer helped me see the creek as a living system that holds both human disruption and animal life.”
