- The Lady of the River (Walnut Avenue Bridge), 2024
Painted below the Walnut Avenue Bridge is the mural “The Lady of the River” by Jon Murrill. The mural is part of Murrill’s Lady Appalachia series, where local women are portrayed as part of the natural environment. The mural features Roanoke resident Bri Aarons, who lives in the neighborhood close by. The mural also embodies the river, the critters, and plants that can be found in the area. “The Lady of the River” is a community mural that heavily involved neighborhood participation. Murrill taught volunteers from the community techniques to paint the mural.
