Inspired by vintage toys in works such as Grandin Village’s beloved Trojan Dog, sculptor and realist painter Ann Glover continues her Roanoke explorations with a self-portrait map. “I see myself everywhere in it,” she says, “including as the cowgirl riding the toy dog.” The mapped territory spans Glover’s birth, childhood, and current neighborhood. Raised in a home where ‘do-it-yourself’ reigned, Glover says, “projects were ongoing, hand tools were not off limits to children, and the results were often magical.”
A founding member of The Market Gallery, Glover would like to see increased the magic of art all over Roanoke. “More of our citizens can be engaged in collaborative art-making. The more inclusive and accessible, the better.”
