Made by Hanna Jubran, “Life Cycle” was featured in the third Art in Roanoke temporary exhibition from 2015-2016. This sculpture is from a series of work that deals with the concept of the four elements, Earth, Water, Fire and wind in our universe on the micro and macro level. It expresses the cycle of life, growth and continuum. The interplay of shape, form, space and colors. These four elements are seen in a variety of shapes and colors as they occur in nature. They are ever changing. As Gibran Khalil said,’ The mission of art is to bring out the unfamiliar to the most familiar’. With this, I would like the viewer to gaze, interact and experience my sculpture.

About the artist:
Hanna Jubran received his M.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is currently a Sculpture Professor at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Some of his most recent activities are: The creation of “A Monument to a Century of Flight” in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; The International Sculpture Biennale, Chaco, Argentina; The Elements of the Earth “Rim of Fire,” Symposium at Pedvale Sculpture Park, Sabile, Latvia, The International Wood carving Symposium, St. Blasien, Germany; The International Sculpture Symposium in Pirkkala, Finland; Tultepec, Mexico Monumental Sculpture Symposium; Mexico. In the temporary exhibition, Art in Roanoke from 2015 to 2016, artists were asked to blend nature with the urban for the theme “The Natural City.” The show was held in the then newly renovated Elmwood Park for about 18 months.
